Vet the other side of every load — without leaving your inbox.

Freight Check spots the MC or DOT number in the email you're already reading and shows the right vetting card for what it is: full FMCSA safety and insurance data for carriers, live bond status for brokers. Plus a one-click legitimacy screen for shippers. No new tabs. No SAFER searches. No surprises.

Launching this week — get notified.

For brokers

You vet the carrier.

Freight Check reads the MC or DOT in the reply you're already looking at and shows authority, insurance on file vs. required, safety rating, out-of-service rates, and a Trust Score — before you send the rate con. When a new shipper emails, screen their domain in one click.

For carriers & dispatchers

You vet the broker.

Before you haul, confirm the broker's authority is active and their BMC-84 / BMC-85 bond is on file against the $75,000 minimum — so you know there's something to collect against if a payment goes sideways. Same extension, flip to carrier mode.

How it works
  1. 01

    Install in 30 seconds

Pick broker or carrier mode. No account, no signup, no card.

  2. 02

Open any email with an MC or DOT number

Freight Check spots the identifier in the message body locally, as you read.

  3. 03

    Hover

The right card appears — carrier or broker, decided from the FMCSA record itself.

Authority

Live FMCSA authority & status

Operating authority and status pulled live from FMCSA QCMobile — the single hardest stop before you commit a load.
Insurance

Insurance on file vs. required

The carrier's BIPD coverage on file against what their authority requires, plus whether cargo coverage is on file.
Safety

Safety rating & OOS rates

Satisfactory / Conditional / Unsatisfactory / Not Rated, plus vehicle and driver out-of-service rates against the national average.
Bond

Broker bond status

BMC-84 or BMC-85 on file and the bond amount against the $75,000 FMCSA minimum. (FMCSA doesn't publish the surety company or effective date, so those read “—”.)
Fleet

Fleet size & new-authority flags

Power units and drivers on file, with a flag when a carrier has zero recent inspections — the honest proxy for a brand-new authority.
Alerts

Red-flag alerts

Inactive or revoked authority, out-of-service orders, missing or insufficient insurance, a missing broker bond, out-of-service rates over twice the national average, and carriers with no inspections on record.
Score

Keelway Trust Score

One 0–100 score with an itemized breakdown, banded Good / Caution / High-risk. Hard fails collapse the score so nothing hides.
Shipper

Shipper legitimacy screen

One click on a new customer's domain confirms it looks like a real operating business. Legitimacy screen — not a credit score. Payment-history scores coming in Credit Pro.
Anywhere

Gmail + right-click lookup

Automatic detection in Gmail as you read, plus a right-click lookup on any highlighted number or name anywhere on the web.
Pro

Unlimited on Pro

Ten free lifetime checks, then $4.99/mo for unlimited lookups across both broker and carrier modes. Cancel anytime.

Frequently asked questions

What does Freight Check actually check?+
It reads the MC or DOT number in the email you're looking at and pulls the live FMCSA record for that entity. For carriers you get operating authority and status, insurance on file versus required, safety rating, out-of-service rates versus the national average, and fleet size — rolled into a Keelway Trust Score with red-flag alerts. For brokers you get authority status and BMC-84/BMC-85 bond status: whether a bond is on file and its amount against the $75,000 FMCSA minimum. Plus a one-click legitimacy screen for a shipper's domain.
Does my email content get sent to Keelway?+
No. Freight Check scans the message body locally, in your browser, for MC and DOT number patterns — nothing more. Your email content, the sender's address, and the rest of the page never leave your machine. The only thing sent to Keelway is the specific MC number, DOT number, or domain you actively look up. The shipper check is user-initiated only; it never runs on its own.
Is the shipper check a credit score?+
Not yet — it's a legitimacy screen, not a credit score. Payment-history scores are coming in Credit Pro. The shipper check confirms a company looks like a real, operating business — domain age, web presence, and an FMCSA match where one exists — so you can spot an obviously fake or throwaway counterparty. It does not tell you whether a shipper pays its bills on time. Legitimacy screen — not a credit score. Payment-history scores coming in Credit Pro.
Does Freight Check work outside Gmail?+
Yes. Inside Gmail it spots MC and DOT numbers automatically as you read. Anywhere else on the web — a load board, a broker's site, a PDF in your browser — highlight a number or company name, right-click, and run the same lookup. No number is ever transmitted unless you hover on it in Gmail or click the right-click lookup yourself.
What does it cost, and what's the free tier?+
Your first 10 lookups are free — no credit card, no account. After that it's $4.99/month for unlimited lookups, cancel anytime. Pick broker mode (you vet carriers) or carrier mode (you vet brokers) when you install; you can switch anytime, and both personas are included in the one price.
Where does the data come from? Is Keelway part of FMCSA?+
Carrier and broker data comes from the FMCSA's public QCMobile database; shipper legitimacy signals come from public DNS and RDAP. Keelway is not affiliated with or endorsed by FMCSA. We surface public government data in a faster, more readable place — we don't originate, certify, or endorse it.
Why are the surety company and bond effective date blank?+
Because FMCSA's free API doesn't publish them. FMCSA never exposes a broker's surety company, the bond's effective date, or a carrier's authority grant date through the public feed we read, so those fields render as an em dash — with a note, rather than a guessed value. We'd rather show you a truthful blank than a fabricated date. Everything else on the card is a live read of the real record.
